Once upon a time…there was an evening when a very creative and extremely funny friend of ours, a certain Peter offered us some whisky. I apologized that it was not my drink, etcetera, etcetera…..but, in the end, he managed to pour some into my glass. I said, ’… and the ice?’ … ’You just smell it, taste it and then we’ll talk about the ice, too …’. And I slowly ’melted’ into that glass of whisky like an ice cube. And I was lost …
That certain whiskey was a 12-year-old Lagavulin but we tasted about 5 others later that night … without ice!
That divine experience has been followed by own discoveries. As there were hardly a few single malts available at home and even those at (for me) unaffordable or rather unacceptable prices, airport Duty Free Shops (first of all in London) have become my sources of supply in respect of drinks and information as well. I have spent entire nights reading the small letter parts of the 4th edition of Michael Jackson's book: ’A Complete Guide to Single Malt’ and sipping wee drams of various bottled versions of the 'elixir of life'.
Years after – while neither the selection in Hungary really improved nor the prices decreased – I still have found (with a few friends of mine also interested in whisky) that knowledge and acknowledgement of whisk(e)y in Hungary is still restricted to several mixed brands and perhaps to Glenfiddich. An UNBEARABLE SITUATION!
In line with the above mentioned, even our youngest daughter has become 'mature for kindergarten' while the mother of my daughters – with significant prior experience in marketing alcoholic beverages – more and more often was thinking of seeking new pursuits. The time has come! Let's kick it off!
That's how we set up our small family enterprise called WhiskyNet Kft. - I still owe a bottle of whisky to our lawyer (by the way, if you read these lines, please call to get it!!!) - with the primary intention to provide the widest possible selection for whisk(e)y fans at reasonable prices in a comfortable way. What's more, we offer not only whisk(e)y but other drinks of exquisite quality and related products (glasses, books, etc.).
Our further objective is to make WhiskyNet not only a webshop but an information centre as well. We would like to provide you with interesting information, data and images about the history and production of whisk(e)y and about everything that a fan might be interested in.
In our FORUM or in relation of any specific product, our customers or readers may also share their opinion with us and with one another, or, send messages to us and other customers. We do ask and encourage all our visitors to write about their positive experience and reccomendations as well as their critical comments or advice. Feedback from customers and fans will help others in orientation and will also facilitate our job to assess your requirements better and enable us to provide you with an even wider selection and an even better service. (The FORUM and comments related to products will not be edited or filtered except for comments with violent, vulgar or personal content or language or containing advertisement.)
At the moment WhiskyNet is only available via Internet, i. e. we do not keep a traditional shop; however, we have been working on this issue as well. Yet if you would like to ’palpate’ the bottle before buying it or just simply cannot resist the temptation to have a look at a store with more than 200 brands of whisky or even taste some of them, you are most welcome – at a previously fixed time – for a drink and a brief introduction into the world of whiskies in our store in the downtown of Szentendre. If you are interested in this opportunity, please write an e-mail (

If you need dedicated or exclusive gift packaging we also ask you to contact us as specified above. We will try to do our best to fulfil any specific request within our limits. We are also ready to procure special items not listed in our selection now, as well as to obtain a complete barrel of whisk(e)y from your favourite distillery - stored and dedicated personally to you or your company!
Delicatesse shops, beverage traders, restaurants or bars are also welcome. We can also offer special conditions for them depending on the ordered quality and the related services (point-to-point delivery, marketing materials, tastings, payment method, etc.).
WhiskyNet is proud to have the opportunity to participate in the operation of the Hungarian Whisky Club and to support the Club with its products. We are also proud that Dávid Kovács - one of, or perhaps the greatest authority on whisky in Hungary, the Chairman of the Whisky Club – supports our job with his comments and reccomendations as we have common goals: to make this special drink popular in Hungary and to show its fine features to as many people as possible. At the same time, Dávid maintains a whisky related blog (http://whiskynews.blogspot.com/) selected among the top five whisky blogs by the Whisky Magazin (http://www.whiskymag.com/), where those interested may get new and truly authentic information in English and Hungarian on an ongoing basis.
WhiskyNet Kft is a company registered in Szentendre. We ourselves live here and love this town, its atmosphere, its citizens and tourists. We love Szentendre, therefore we support the activities and objectives of ’Love Szentendre Association’ through our humble means. If you have come so far, you must be a resolute whisky fan! Explore and browse as you wish and we hope you'll discover your favourite drinks here or perhaps may even find new flavours.
